UNICRI has been active in the fields of crime prevention and criminal justice for over four decades, it has adapted to an ever-changing environment thanks to its dynamic, fresh and innovative approach in applied research.

Its operations have the objective of advancing security, serving justice and building peace, the institute perceives itself as a “first response broker”, finding creative solutions and building strong partnerships.

Given crime’s increasingly international character and the need to create common plans and strategies to fight it, UNICRI operates in selected niches as a ‘laboratory of ideas’ and its activities help the integration of national and international efforts to search for good practices and adapt them to different national situations.

The Institute provides high-level expertise and training to promote national self-reliance and the development of institutional capabilities to assist in the creation and implementation of sound strategies and concrete intervention programmes.

UNICRI will continue to work to facilitate the identification of common objectives, to boost dialogue and cooperation between different stakeholders, boosting partnership between the private sector and the public sphere.
