The Advisory Board for the newly launched AI for Safer Children Initiative implemented in partnership by UNICRI, through its Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, and the Ministry of Interior of the United Arab Emirates, met virtually for the first time this afternoon.

The National Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Team of Iraq, led by the National Focal Point, Dr Riad Al Tamimi, organized a workshop to assess the national needs in the CBRN field with remote assistance from the CBRN Centres of Excellence (CBRN CoE) Team, composed of the European Commission, the External Action Service, UNICRI – the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute, and the On-Site Assistance Expert of the EU CBRN CoE for the Middle East region. 

On 4 November 2020, UNICRI held a virtual meeting of the International Network on Biotechnology (INB), a global network of academic and research institutions developed by UNICRI, in cooperation with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and committed to advancing education and raising-awareness about responsible life science.

On 1 March 2021, UNICRI and Global Affairs Canada signed a multi-year agreement for the implementation of the project “CONTACT – Southeast Asia – Enhancing capacities to prevent the trafficking of radiological and nuclear (RN) material in Southeast Asia.”

UNICRI, in collaboration with the Institute of Centromarca for the Fight Against Counterfeiting (INDICAM), has published a new position paper which summarizes evidence from the recent International Conference on intellectual property (IP) infringement and organized crime.

On the 1st February 2021, Professor Juan Carlos Sainz-Borgo, Dean of the University for Peace (UPEACE); Professor Mihir Kanade, Director of the Human Rights Centre at UPEACE; Ms. Antonia Marie De Meo, Director of UNICRI; and Mr. Leif Villadsen, Deputy Director of UNICRI, officially opened the fourteenth edition of the Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Transnational Crime and Justice. The opening ceremony, which was held virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions, was a chance to welcome the 43 students from 22 countries who will be studying for the LL.M. this year.
