IPO Americas

The First Regional Network of National Focal Points
on Major Events Security

IPO Americas is a regional initiative of UNICRI's International Permanent Observatory on Major Events Security (IPO), the programme mandated by the United Nations to enhance major events security worldwide.

Launched in 2007 by the Security Governance / Counter-Terrorism Laboratory in cooperation with CICTE, the Inter-American Committee Against Terrorism of the Organization of American States, IPO Americas seeks to facilitate mutual assistance programmes and share best practices between countries in the Americas.

To this end, an official Network of National Focal Points on Major Events Security, comprising representatives of each of the States involved in the programme, was established to exchange information and resources to secure major events taking place in the region.

Thanks to the IPO National Focal Points and the overall IPO framework, IPO Americas facilitates regular access to technical assistance and expertise, and to technical tools like the IPO Planning Model.

IPO Americas promotes public and private sector cooperation to enhance the security and safety of major events, and maximize both the legacy and the economic opportunities that can be generated by a major event.
