The First International Symposium "Security Measures and Technical Solutions For Major Events and Expanding Cities ", will take place in Abu Dhabi from 18 to 20 May 2009, in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Interior and under the Patronage of His Highness Lt. General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahayan.

A group of UN Member States’ representatives along with experts from prominent technology providers will meet to promote innovation on the use of technology, emphasizing both human factors and resource optimization. Private companies from the security technology industry and high-level security representatives from countries across the globe will have a chance to interact during a variety of working sessions.

The aim of the Symposium is to learn from past experiences and promote effective solutions for the future. There will be a series of inputs on recent major events, security preparations for upcoming major events and protection of vulnerable targets - particularly in the context of rapid growth cities. The underlying tone of the discussions will contribute to the definition of how the UN-mandated program on major events can promote synergies between the security community and technology providers.
