In the UNICRI’s efforts to promote the legacy of the International tribunals, The ICTY Manual on Developed Practices is being launched at a Regional Conference organised by UNICRI in Sarajevo. The Manual on Developed Practices was produced in cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and there are versions available in English and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian.

The Conference, sponsored by the Italian Development Cooperation and hosted by the Ministry of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina, will be attended by a large number of judicial institutions from the Balkans, as well as from the other International Tribunals, such as the Extraordinary Chambers in the Court of Cambodia (ECCC), the Special Court for Sierra Leone (SCSL), the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) and the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX). In addition various International Missions in Sarajevo will participate in this event.

The ICTY Manual on Developed Practices collects the most efficient and innovative practices developed by The Hague Tribunal from the beginning of its work in 1993 until today and it is intended to serve as a reference tool for global and national level policy makers, international criminal law practitioners and other international, internationalized or hybrid tribunals. The aim of the publication is to facilitate the widespread dissemination of the most effective practices in war crimes prosecution, not just in the Balkans, but also in other post-conflict and crisis areas worldwide.

The Manual, underscores UNICRI’s key role in promoting the legacy of ICTY. Furthermore, the Manual marks its commitment as an interregional institute of the UN devoted, through various initiatives, to the promotion of the individual and joint legacies of the International Criminal Tribunals, not only in the countries directly affected by the Tribunals’ activities, but also in other countries and regions around the world affected by conflicts.

The agenda of the event “Promoting the Legacy of International Tribunals: Regional Conference” (English version and Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian version) can be accessed from this site.

The English version of the ICTY Manual on Developed Practices is available on the ICTY website.
