On 26th May 2009, a day before the Champions League final match, there will be a virtual test of two of the services of the European House of Major Events Security: the Special Technical Equipment Pool (STEP) and European Major Event Register (EMER). These tools will become part of the range of services that will be offered by the House, which is the main envisaged outcome of the EU-SEC II Project, to its members.

EU-SEC II builds upon the research network created by the UNICRI Lab’s Project EU-SEC, 2004-2008 (Coordinating National Research Programmes on Security during Major Events in Europe). The final goal and ambition of EU-SEC II is to assist the creation of the House, a long-lasting tool which will be at the disposal of members to facilitate the effective design of security plans for Major Events.

The House will provide both coordination methodologies and technical assistance to countries hosting a major event, delivering operational results that will be sustainable over a long period of time and remain useful for Member States in future decades.

The results and insights of the virtual test will be utilized to refine the services that will be offered by the House during the next phases of the EU-SEC II project in view of its launch in 2011
