UNICRI participated, as one of the five international organizations, in the international exercise against nuclear terrorism. In the 'Exercise Cobalt 2009', which took place on the 24-26 of November in Utrecht, the Netherlands, participated more than 130 participants from 36 different countries. The aim of the exercise was to jointly prevent a threatening radiological and nuclear attack through the enhancement of information exchange between countries and organizations such as Interpol, Europol and the International Atomic Energy Agency. The exercise was initiated by the Dutch National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and took place within the framework of the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism (GICNT).
