Lisbon, Portugal – UNICRI’s Security Governance/Counter Terrorism Laboratory is organizing the Fifth International Workshop of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Network.
The event will take place on 4th-5th February 2010 in Lisbon (the city that hosts UNICRI’s Public-Private Security Policies & Major Events Security Initiative) with the goal of discussing visions, tools and methods to “Enhance Public-Private Security Policies to Protect Vulnerable Targets”.
This is the second time that Portugal hosts a PPP International Network meeting, a coalition of public and private entities working together to promote a new culture of cooperation between these two sectors all around the world.
The UNICRI programme on PPP was launched by UNICRI in 2007 within the framework of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force (CTITF) and focuses on the protection of soft targets. Soft targets are places where groups of people routinely gather or resort, such as hotels and resorts, tourist or recreational centres, train and bus stations, historical sites, cultural, religious and educational centres, multi-national company premises and financial centres.
During the Fifth International Workshop, specialists on security issues will share information on updated PPP practices, discuss changed security visions, and work together to finalise UNICRI’s Handbook on PPPs. This handbook is a tool designed by UNICRI to facilitate the creation of PPP projects at national and city levels.
The event will be attended by representatives from the public and private sectors from Australia, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Israel, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russian Federation, Senegal, Spain, Togo, United Kingdom, and United States of America. Representatives of EUPM and ASIS International have also confirmed their participation.
