UNICRI, with UNODC, IAEA, EU, UNODA and Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism, participates in the workshop “Legal Framework for Strengthening Nuclear Security and Combating Nuclear Terrorism” organized by NATO and Centre for International Trade & Security (The University of Georgia) in Vienna, 28th – 29th January 2010.

The proposed workshop will be convened with the participation of world’s leading experts on the subject to review the existing and proposed new measures for achieving rapid ratification and universality of the existing binding counterterrorist legal instruments, as well as facilitating participation of more countries in voluntary international arrangements designed – directly or indirectly – to counter nuclear terrorism.

UNICRI will deliver a presentation on “Exploring a CBRN Regional Approach”.

An executive report will be released before the April 2010 Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, DC to provide recommendations on the basis of workshop findings.
