The UNICRI Lab’s CBRN Knowledge Management System was presented at the Conference “Making the Difference” organized in Brussels by the European Commission as a successful programme aimed at fighting the illicit trafficking of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear materials.
The Conference, organized every two years, gathers the international community of policy makers and crisis response experts in order to discuss and learn from reactions to crises and security threats. In particular, the 2009 edition aims at assessing what works best and “what makes the difference” with the view to identifying effective approaches to strengthening all crisis response capacities.
The Lab’s participation in the Conference proves the effectiveness of the CBRN analytical approach developed by the Knowledge Management System Programme. Indeed, following the launch in February 2008 of the KMS on CBRN trafficking in South-Eastern Europe and the Caucasus, in February 2009 the Lab launched a new KMS on CBRN trafficking in Northern Africa and in some countries of the Middle East.
