International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism

Terrorism is a global threat, impacting communities around the world.

On International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, UNICRI stands in solidarity with victims of terrorism and honors the legacy of those who lost their lives in terrorist attacks.

The day is marked annually on 21 August and the theme for 2023 is “The Legacy Project: Finding Hope and Building a Peaceful Future.”

UNICRI closely monitors trends and developments, with a view to enhancing the capacity of Member States and partners to prevent, curtail, and respond to terrorist incidents.

The Institute works with local communities, civil society, and state institutions to address threats related to radicalization and violent extremism as well as to understand their impacts on societies, and in particular, vulnerable groups.

UNICRI also works with partners at the community level to tackle drivers for the radicalization of youth as well as to address gender dynamics of recruitment and radicalization to violent extremism.
