The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), through its Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, and the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) are organizing the 2nd Global Meeting on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Law Enforcement. The meeting will be held in Singapore on 3-4 July 2019 and will see the participation of representatives of the law enforcement, academia, private sector, and from UN and INTERPOL Member States.

UNICRI and the United Nations Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) signed an agreement establishing a framework for their cooperation.

Together with the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) and the Permanent Missions to the United Nations of Georgia, the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates, UNICRI convened a high-level event at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

A new report “Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for Law Enforcement” has been published by the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute’s (UNICRI), Centre for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics, and Innovation Centre of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL).

The report summarizes key findings, challenges and recommendations presented and discussed during the first INTERPOL - UNICRI Global Meeting on the Opportunities and Risks of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for Law Enforcement held in Singapore on 11-12 July 2018.

Strategic partnership between UNICRI and 1Qbit to support the Centre on AI and Robotics

The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) and 1QB Information Technologies, Inc. (1QBit) signed an agreement to establish a strategic partnership with respect to UNICRI’s Centre for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics in The Hague, the Netherlands.

Artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies are two of the most promising, complex, and fast advancing current technological developments. ‘Artificial intelligence’ refers to computer systems that exhibit abilities to perform problem-solving, predictive analysis, and other cognitive tasks. In recent years, advanced machine-learning algorithms able to learn on their own on the basis of large data sets have raised legitimate concerns but also brought about novel opportunities to enhance decision-making processes, to inform policy choices, and to advance common goals.

Signing of the Host Country Agreement

On Thursday 7 September, the Director of UNICRI, Cindy Smith, and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the International Organizations, Johan van der Werff, signed the Host Country Agreement for the establishment of the first United Nations Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, in The Hague, The Netherlands.
